family, art and charity

Lost that hour. Then another few minutes setting clocks. I drank no alcohol last night and yet I felt groggy this morning. Of course, the Capresso fixed me right up.

We took FFP's parents to his dad's sister's 80th birthday party. After years of marriage, I recognize a lot of the clan and some of them recognize me. Of course, since we don't see everyone that often, one is always struck by the aging.

A French Horn player joined the band today. Haven't got a picture to do justice to her (yes, her) perfect balance on one leg yet. Awesome.

There is an article in today's New York Times magazine about Testosterone. Very interesting article. In some species, the females have more vitamin T than the males.

Meals on Wheels honored Ann Richards. It got pretty rauchy but I was splitting my sides at the jabs Turk Pipkin, Kinky Friedman, Ray Benson and even the mayor of Dallas launched in roasting (er, honoring) Ann.

There were some real characters at the benefit. One in a cream suit with white hair and a goatee turned out not to be Colonel Sanders but an actual Meals on Wheels client who had been invited to the event to give the invocation. (Hope Kinky wasn't offended by the Jesus part. Nah, not Kinky.)

I guess Ann's hair inspires people. There was an afro. On a man. A white man. (Memo to all: sixties over.) There was one woman with HUGE hair. Had to be a wig. Yes, this is Texas. It is also the year 2000.

Ray Benson and a couple of his guys played a few tunes. Hope they didn't fall 'asleep at the wheel' heading back to join up with Bob Dylan.

Had a drink with our buddies Gene and Amy, the double D, the manager of FS and his wife, Rebecca and Markje (I'm not sure how she spells it, but it's strange) afterward in the lounge.

It's raining a lot. It's Sunday night. Work tomorrow. And someone stole an hour.
