not facing the music

I spent most of the work day making sure I had everything for my trip to the conference. Then I did a run through of the conference presentation that I hadn't practiced in a long time. I wrote some e-mail suggesting some action we take on something. Not much response. Everyone is off one place or the other and will be for a couple of weeks.

SuRu and I had lunch at Whole Foods (gigantic salad with everything for me). Then we went to REI. I thought they had a sale BUT (1) it hadn't started; (2) it was for members only. So we just looked and I swore I wouldn't buy anything but I got some packing stuff and a couple of cool summer Hawaiian-style shirts that were too cool to pass up. Since I can't keep up with membership stuff, I let SuRu pay for it and get credit.

Friday night and we had symphony tickets. I hadn't slept well or long the last two nights. A sure prescription for falling asleep.

When I got home, our friend Darla (Johnson of Johnson/Long Dance Company) was here visiting. We gave her pictures from the last party they did here and I was finding an envelope for her when I remembered some pictures from three years ago that I'd been intending to give her

Forrest wasn't inclined to go to the symphony either. We decided to skip. No matter how good the concert, we couldn't imagine that it would be worth the hassle this night. So we dressed casually (ne: cotton pants and my new fish shirt) and called Zoot and they put our favorite table on hold. We grabbed a bottle of 1994 Andrus Reserve from Pine Ridge (a Bordeaux-style bend) and were off.

Zoot is a great restaurant. Named after Zoot Sims. Or after the dog named after Zoot Sims. Erica and Bick Brown own it. Erica's dad painted the pictures.

Zoot is in a small converted house at 509 Hearn just north of Lake Austin Boulevard. It was another restaurant (Kate's) before it was Zoot. Steve is the Maitre d' tonight. Steve started when it was Kate's. As we come in, our table is set. We sit down because Steve is busy explaining how to get to the restaurant on the phone.

We have some great food and our wine. Steve tries a taste of it, too. Zoot is always bustling with waiters and the service is fine (Carlos, Carlos and Mark are there tonight as well as others). As we are finishing our entrees, our friends Gene and Amy come in. They want to know whether we are going to the Four Seasons bar later. We waffle and then agree.

We get to the bar and it's very busy. No tables. But finally we capture a choice one and the guys bring seats for Gene and Amy. Rebecca plays and we listen and have some water and after dinner drinks. I catch a flash of lightning over my shoulder. Some a massive thunder buster is going on outside.

We decide it's time to check on the dog and go to bed. (Chalow the dog got her drainage tubes removed today and the dog thinks she's going to be OK.)

Emil gets our car under the carriageway and we go home and slide into the garage, none the wetter. We clean the dogs wounds and put a fresh T-shirt on her and we all go to bed.

verybodyt the bottom.
