"What we do belongs to what we are; and what we are is what becomes of us."

Meta: I may be a little erratic in updating for the next few weeks.

The eXtreme dog walking team did not venture out this day. SuRu felt ill. I worked out at Westwood instead. Felt good. Just a short workout. Because I'm out of shape, of course. It's amazing how little I can do on the machines.

I had intentions, of course, of getting this office completely organized, including sorting the slides I brought from Mom's months ago. I intended to get lots of stuff done for the parents as well. I intended to read the entire manual on the digital video camera. Which isn't as thick as you'd think since only 1/3 is English.

What did I actually do?

I read most of that manual. Forrest started going through it with me and we skipped parts on manual aperture and exposure and stuff but just noted the different buttons. Finally, we put a battery in, put in the button battery that keeps time and stuff, put the mike on, the lens on, put a tape in and.... Yes, of course, we made a video of Chalow and our kitchen. Played it back on the camera and on Forrest's TV. The thing is incredible how it adjusts to light and focus even when you have an unsteady hand. There was a little hair or thread visible in the viewfinder but it doesn't appear on the video. Otherwise it worked as advertised as far as we could test it. So much to learn about the new technology. I'm mentally ready to make my movie, though. "The Nancys" is the working title. I was going to do a fictional thing but I've morphed it into a documentary. But I may go back to a combination.

I did help the parents a little. Filing and e-mail.

And, you know what? The office is still messy, but I swear it is getting better. I did another reel of slides and I started cleaning out a drawer. I try to pick something up and take care of it each time I'm in here. It's still a disaster and my plans for the next couple of weeks won't change that.

Forrest and I watched 'Ice Storm' on cable this evening. I remembered reading about it. I'd probably seen bits of it before. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Which reminds me of my preview rating system.

Must go to movies to see (top rating).
Wait for cable.
Watch on Cable in randomly ordered fifteen minute increments.
Avoid on Cable.
Cancel Cable to avoid ever seeing.
(And thanks to SuRu on Saturday...a new category...Buy Insurance Against Ever seeing.)

It seems that the lower categories were much in evidence on the previews I saw Saturday. In fact, I needed insurance for one of the previews, I think. And I'm not that much of a wimp...after all I was there to see a movie where a guy is buried alive. (Sorry, spoiler, but the movie is 15 years old. And it's hard to spoil it because it's so darn complicated.)
