"Compassion is a luxury of the affluent."

Meta: I'm trying to catch up on this...and I will to it, by gum.

I always try to tell the truth...when I can find it.

Houston

Edge City Cafe lunch. This place (in the Arboretum next to Amy's) is the best fast food in town. I had my usual grilled tuna salad with basalmic vinegar. They serve it with a flaky roll I can't resist, no matter my current attitude toward carbs. SuRu and I shared one of those brain drinks. Hope it helps.

Rode to Houston with some colleagues. The trade off for not having to drive myself at dawn is to spend the night in Houston. Also get a little time with these colleagues to discuss issues.

We eat at the South American place that is the favorite of one of my work buddies. Actually the food is pretty good. We drink a 1999 Rosemount Shiraz. It is delicious. (If a little overpriced at $29...surely this wine isn't over $12 retail.) It will be weird when we go into a restaurant and get a 2000 this or that, won't it?

My technique for sleeping in a sterile hotel room is this: sip an overpriced beer (Shiner Bock) from the mini bar and watch an overpriced movie on the TV ("High Fidelity"). You have to be a music nut to truly appreciate this movie but it's amusing. I do sleep. Most of the overpriced Shiner will be poured down the drain in the morning but the four ounces or so after the glass or two of wine did the trick.
