Meta: Does it make a difference when I write this stuff? Yes, yes it does. Must catch up.

airports and why they are worth it

We are out of the house before 6AM. We are parked at the airport and inside and have boarding cards by 6:30 or so. We are distrubed that they can't give us boarding cards for the Salt Lake City to Portland leg.

We have this awful flight to Salt Lake City that touches down in San Antonio for forty-five minutes. And when we get to Salt Lake City and rush to the next gate, we are right to be concerned. They are overbooked and won't give us a seat right away. Eventually we get two. FFP has to take a middle seat and I'm on the last row of a 767.

But we get there. And pretty much on time. And we call our friends and they say they are waiting at the curb and soon we are joking around and headed to eat some seafood for lunch overlooking the Columbia river. Airplanes fly down it as we watch.

Our buddies take us to a house in Vancouver, near theirs, that they rent out as an executive house. It's vacant now and we are going to use it for our vacation. It is very cool with a nice view and with TV, VCR, nice baths, etc. etc. Very nice. The decorator has used food-shaped objects to decorate the kitchen. (Stop me!)

After we get settled in, FFP and I have wine and cheese with the wife while the husband does a bike ride. We admire their property, their new guest cabins and their adventurous landscaping.

Then off to a restaurant right on the Columbia where we eat burgers, fries, chicken wings and all manner of stuff.

Finally, we start to fade on their time scheme. After all...we got up at 3AM their time.
