"If I were running the world I would have it rain only between two and five A.M.--anyone out then ought to get wet."

rain on the parade

I get up, thinking that a dog walk is in the offing. But I hear thunder.

The neighbors are having a garage sale. FFP scores a couple of CDs and books. People's discarded goods, clothes, books, toys, a couple of electronic typewriters, look pitiful spread on the ground. And more so when the rain is coming. Finally the sale is reduced to piles under blue tarps. It will reopen when the skies clear.

So it's time to do some stuff around the house. Mix up some homemade migas (thanks, FFP). Install stuff on the new computer and test stuff out. Resort to a picture for the page that is a snap of a painting at Fonda, taken during yesterday's round of errands.

I try FFP's new combo DVD/Recordable/Rewritable CDROM drive. The drive eats the CD-RW disk and after a couple of hours is hung 'verifying' it. Then the drive does various strange things. Finally works with a CD-R and returns to being able to read normal disks. Is the mode switching on these things dicey? Hmmm....It is a nice DVD player, though.

I hang around in the way of FFP and his bookkeeper. We all eat fried chicken while watching some of Wimby. We discuss why people don't want to pay other people, particularly those providing services, what they are due.

I enter the family spending for June. We tell Chalow that she is over her budget for the month.

I feel the need to get out of the house. We go to BookStop for a while. I don't buy anything, but I look through a bunch of books and magazines.

At home, I waste time reading newspapers and watching shows like The Simpsons, Sex in the City, Six Feet Under. Where did my day go? Did I learn anything? No, not really. I must manage my time better. But I did have a nice day. One of those days where I seemed really busy buy accomplished nothing.
