us, enjoying the creations of food and wine

Chacun le bien désire,
Et le désire sien."

creativity

There are hundreds of ways to be creative. Lots of people desire to learn how to do something just like others. But I want to make something different. Other people are like that, too. It's frustrating because it is difficult to create. Something different. To not follow the crowd.

I'm a little lazy getting up. Mom calls around nine, though, and wants me to come over while Dad goes to the grocery store. I go over. Dad had a cold but he is getting better. Mom is still staying mostly in bed, hurting from her shingles and getting nauseous when she takes the anti-viral and pain pills. I read the comics to her. It's hard to read the comics out loud especially when you don't usually read anything but Dilbert and don't know the characters. I notice that Doonesbury is representing George W. as a cowboy hat with an asterisk and nothing else underneath. I figure that the fact that I just discovered this proves that I don't read anything but Dilbert.

Dad returns quickly from his errands. They both munch on the chocolate chip cookies I've brought that were left over from last night.

Dad is still reading Peter the Great. He is three hundred pages into it. It's about a nine-hundred-page book, though.

We go to the lunch given at Four Seasons for the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival. There is wine from an Italian winery and Fall Creek (our own winery in Tow, Texas). There is duck ravioli, red snapper and risotto and a nice dessert of lemon flan, cactus sorbet and cream:

We sit by our friends Jeff and Gail. We talk to some people from Houston. We talk about restaurants in Houston and New York and about movies about food. Why not? We talk about their travels. I envy their means to do what they want. But also the grace with which they've embraced success.

Wine in the middle of the day = nap. So I take one. I haven't done this in a long, long time. I get undressed and get in bed and read until I fall asleep. It's cool outside and the sheets are cool. FFP and the dog eventually join me. Around six we get up. I get a cup of coffee and start playing with my computer and watching movies on TV. I watch the end of The Grapes of Wrath.

I join FFP in the big room. We watch extremely weird, relentlessly artsy movies on IFC and I read the paper and start on a book about how to use Fireworks. (I use it everyday but there are many things I don't know.) Then I go to bed and read A Beautiful Mind and fall asleep. I'm only about a hundred pages into this book. The chapter on John Von Neumann makes me want to read a biography of him. I bet there is one around here. Sigh.

JUST TYPING
Take care.
Tiptoe around.
Why?
Can't say.
