"Every parting gives a foretaste of death, every reunion a hint of the resurrection."
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

It is not enough to be happy; it is necessary, in addition, that others not be.

the most beautiful day of the year

A day so cool you could have two dog walks.

Because usually, this time of year, you have to walk early. And you don't want to do it again. It's Texas. But it was cool in the shade all day.

FFP went along in the morning and we drove to a campus neighborhood and looked for the lot where some condos are being built. We are idly talking about getting a condo where you can walk to things for our old age. Close in and not too far from the airport. Where you can walk to UT or downtown. So we've been idly looking. This is a longterm plan. It will involve divesting of many, many things. In the case of this condo, there is lots of time to think. The lot had not so much as a sign or a clod of dirt turned. Trees were marked to preserve. That's it. Sandwiched north of UT, near Concordia, it's a pretty convenient location. If you don't mind students as neighbors. We saw students packing up their belongings into a UHaul. Graduating or just going home for the summer.

We saw a little Cafe (Red River Cafe, actually on Medical Arts) and thought we'd eat there if we didn't have the dogs. So, quite soon, we went back to SuRu's CRV and took those pups home.

Red River Cafe was cheap, grimy, with grackles and flies on the patio and a girl in a cat bonnet. Food was cold. Mine anyway. Still I enjoyed it. Funny that.

Went home and did some work. Yes, work.

In the afternoon, FFP went to sit by the pool at the club and SuRu and I walked the dogs again. To Dart Bowl and back. Dissing the neighborhood, life and all of it. Too walks in a day. I'd had a relaxed weekend. I hadn't taken a shower even. Nice. Peaceful. Except for the work. And worrying about my mother. Who has new troubles whenvever I talk to her.

In the evening I have some nachos, FFP the leftover filet and we watch The Simpsons and Six Feet Under.

I could wish for a life of weekends. But. Would it be this nice if Monday weren't lurking?

JUST TYPING
Warm in the sun.
Cool in the shadows.
What a rare treat.
For River City.
