what were they thinking? well, they are thinking they can get $800,000 for it

"And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance "

"The Dance" by Tony Arata (performed to popular acclaim by Garth Brooks)

It is not enough to be happy; it is necessary, in addition, that others not be.

more endings

Yesterday, we went to the memorial service for a very good friend. FFP gave a personal eulogy. It was hard on him. Tuesday I attended a funeral for a co-worker. Death is part of life. I wish that it would hold off just now in my little realm and let me get my breath. I have a new appreciation for those survivors of September 11 who had to attend scores of services.

Also, I'm ending a thirty-two-year career of 'productive' (i.e. getting paid lots of money) work in the computer industry. I will now get up each day and decide what to do with my time. I will allegedly write and travel, manage my investments and budget, read, study, help others, exercise, etc. Hopefully, I will faithfully record it here.

Last night we had dinner with Dad and some friends at Reed's Jazz and Supper Club. We had some excellent wines left over from their former incarnation as Mezzaluna Gateway. We started with champagne to try to turn the mood festive. It sort of worked. We would have listened to music after the meal but the jazz club downstairs was stacked. So we came back here for talk.

We had an urban adventure in Brykerwoods this morning. SuRu and I (with dogs) parked in front of a friend's house, gave her the 'New York box' to look through (a box of books, maps and clippings for New York trips) and then walked with her around her neighborhood. It was humid but almost cool, but I got weary and tired.

At home, I tried to corral the newspapers so that we could entertain tonight and we did the laundry. I tried to go through some of the piles in my office, too, including the one of papers I didn't actually discard, only moved. There are all these other things in here, too, that need filing and dealing with.

People come over. Bringing food. I'm weary, but FFP and I drag out plates, napkins, bowls, silver. He makes a Caesar Salad and opens wine. We have garlic bread, Italian soup, appetizers, lasagna, the salad and ice cream. We watch the debut of the new season of The Sopranos. I'm not really into it, but I enjoy my friends. So weary, though. Weary, so weary.

JUST TYPING
Life does go on.
But each passing should give us some knowledge.
That enhances our way while living.
