winter asserts itself

I wake up thinking that I need to get some things done. I need to get our taxes to the CPA. We are only missing one K1 so she can work on it. Best to get a workout, I think. It has gotten cold. Yesterday and Saturday were so beautiful. And warm. Brrr.

I do my minutes on the bike (still reading the New York history book) and then do all my upper body exercises and some free weights for my arms. There is a deep water aerobic class in the pool. They are warm but they will feel cold when they pop out. Brrr.

I go home and shower up and have some chips, vegies and dip. I make reference copies of the tax stuff and call the CPA. I get the machine.

I want some of those cable ties to use instead of locks on our suitcases and I'm considering geting another Compact Flash card for my new digital camera. I decide to go to an electronic supply store up north. I get the cable ties but also look around at all the stuff and at their custom computers. They don't sell CF cards. I go to Fry's, stopping off at the K-Mart that is closing down and getting some greeting cards at 40% off. (Some sympathy cards and a cheery card for my friend who is fighting breast cancer.) I decide against a CF card at Fry's and don't buy anything else.

FFP calls my cell during the shopping and says the CPA is in her office and that my dad called. Dad is 'just checking in.'

The weather is turning colder and wetter.

I drive down to South Austin, get a place right in front of Uncommon Objects and go up and deliver our tax stuff.

I decide to take the long way home. I drive up through downtown and across to Guadalupe at MLK and north to 38th and I stop at Precision Camera. I end up buying a fast 512MB CF card from them. Independent vendor, good price. Now I can keep hundreds of pix in the camera.

Home again, I notice the mail is here. Earlier than usual. I think the mailman is too cold to dawdle. I get it in and, of course, the last info we need for the taxes, the last K1, is in the mail. Fotunately it's just a page or two and FFP can fax the info to the CPA.

The weather keeps getting more and more ominous. Sleet is mixed with the rain. We are happy to stay in. I make some nachos and later nibble on a boiled egg and a cheese sandwich and some hot tea with milk and sugar and this and that. We get some reading material and climb into bed with the dog and the TV. I read several piles of papers, we watch The Simpsons and Who Wants to be a Millionaire and then continue with Boston Public, Third Watch, and Crossing Jordan. (FFP tapes CSI in the other room.)

Dad calls once and says the white stuff is falling.

I read papers until it is late enough to just fall asleep. I feel good that I don't have to worry if my office is going to close. I can just plan on not going anywhere in the morning until it is safe.

on the weekend there was a friendly sunshine outdoors

JUST TYPING
Pull up the hood.
Shudder.
Brr.
A warm bed.
Something to read.
Something to watch.
Heater works.
Take the ease.
