dinner party

In the morning, we move the furniture and I work on setting up the tables.

I do my workout...how one looks forward to Tuesday, Thursday and the weekend on this regime. (When you don't have to do any free weights or machines.) And yet you hate to not be practicing on the weight machines, too.

Actually had some time to read today even though I am getting ready for the party. Getting dishes, glasses ready. Setting table. Getting out stuff, arranging table settings, lighting candles, ice, glasses, etc. I don't know how I make setting tables so much work. The Heitz Martha's Vineyard vertical of 1984-1987 Cab turned out to be tasting just fine.

The party went well but didn't break up until 10:30pm. I am too tired to clean much up. Tired and fuzzy-headed is no way to be when washing Riedel Bordeaux glasses.

aftermath of the party I didn't photograph while it was going on.

"On several occasions I have actually read parts of my diary aloud to someone. But too much 'publicity' is destructive to a diary, because the diarist begins, unconsciously perhaps, to leave out, to tone down, to pep up, to falsify experience, and the reason for the undertaking becomes buried beneath posings."

Gail Godwin, A Diarist on Diarists

JUST TYPING
A pristine table.
With shiny glassware.
Reflected candlelight.
A promise.
Fulfilled with good food.
Good wine.
Conversation.
We are so lucky.
