the perfect life of indolence

A day during which I give in to every impulse to be a lazy, yet active retiree.

This morning I had the perfect dog walk. Hills that made me feel strong. A sit down with talking and coffee. More walking, weaving in and out. It was hot but with a breeze, feeling good.

Then I rode the exercise bike and banked a good sweat. Then I had a relaxing shower, a sit in the sun, some laps in the pool. Read my book. Had poolside food. More swimming. More reading.

Dried off and put on shorts and had a coke while watching some good tennis.

Wrote and surfed as I felt like it.

Had a good meal, with some fun friends.

I did exactly what I wanted, gave myself a vacation from fretting about duty and should do, could do, ought to do.

It was what retirement was supposed to be like. It was lovely. Maybe I'll do it again tomorrow.

JUST TYPING

Dreamed it.
Did it.
Wasn't it supposed to disappoint.
Well, it didn't.

Time flies....

Get up about before eight.

Walk with SuRu in Clarksville...get home around 11am.

Go to club. Finish in gym about noon. Shower. Change to bathing suit, camp by pool until 3pm. Dry off and change and watch tennis, reading until nearly four.

4-6 Download pictures, write e-mail, do exactly what I please on the computers.

6 shower and get ready for the evening out.

7-11 visit with friends in restaurant and here

Reading.

Robert Massie's Peter the Great on the bike, by the pool, in between tennis games I'm watching. Massie takes the time to give you the history of warfare, the history of the other monarchs. That's why the book is so long.

Still reading Journey Through Genius.

There is always something else to do.

Exercise

dog walk...about three miles including some hills

53 minutes on recumbent bike

about 15 very slow laps in the pool (I don't actually know how to swim but I can move in a desired direction and, in spite of my small weight loss I'm very, very buoyant.)

.

Felt great all day. Strong, energized.
