extra day

That extra hour in the fall is a hoax...having been taken away in the spring. But February 29 is truly an extra day, isn't it?

Even though the date is one that doesn't exist for my 'year ago' or 'two years ago' features, it doesn't feel like a bonus round somehow. Not really.

The rainy morning and a lack of an obligation to do anything until six tonight makes me decide to cook omelets for breakfast and to not go to the gym before one. I will use the time updating my journal and tidying things up and maybe just spending some more money by reserving rooms and cars for my trip to France.

JUST TYPING

It's a wonderland on-line.
Rent a car.
Investigate train schedules.
View maps.
I try to see myself.
At twenty-four.
Having all that available.
Instead of a guidebook and a few maps, a train pass and my few wits.

Time flies....

We didn't get up until eight. I fooled around, reading the travel section of The New York Times, doing my journal. We decided to have a big breakfast around ten. Then I did some more stuff on the computer from my trip to France. I booked the Paris Hotel and tentatively booked the car rentals. I feel like I want to settle these things. Look for the Euro to sour now that I've booked and then to soar again before I can actually go there. It's terrible to have this kind of economic power.

A little after one, I headed out to the gym. Got home from the gym and folded all the new towels that we are trying to get to quit bleeding and linting. (Maybe buying towels at Sam's wasn't the best idea?) I also washed some new sheets for the new bed that I think I'll like better than the ones I have on there now. I am making peace with the new bed. I didn't sleep too well but better than the night before. FFP says it's fine.

I eat some snacks reading some more stuff from The New York Times and then decide to get cleaned up and get my clothes ready for the evening's event...the AGLIFF Oscar party. We are getting used to using the back shower but we are still having to go all over the house to get dressed since our closet isn't finished and our dresser and wardrobe are still in the living room. All in good time, with the sanity. We maage to find tuxes for the evening's festivities (black tie or dress like a nominee).

Two of our friends come over and four meet us at the event, all on time. We watch The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King a movie that I didn't see except for trailers and promos and that I've watched about fifteen minutes of one of its predessors. Still, my movie going gave me some more obscure knowledge. I had seen every performance nominated for actress. All good, but Charlize deserved it. The ceremony was tiresome but the good company and a little food and drink made it a fun evening. I got in the new bed with a book with I got home.

I'm not sneezing so much today and I'm in a pretty good mood except seeing that the caulk in the shower is flaking off gives me one more reason to be mad at my contractor.

Last year didn't have a February 29.

Two years ago
This one either! Yep, that's how leap year works. In fact, the actual calendar with days of the week doesn't come around often because of the leap day. We won't have February 28 on Saturday and March 1 on Monday until 2032. Fun perpetual calendar here.
