try to show more energy

I've decided to try to be more energetic today and get some of my goals accomplished.

I start by getting up earlier. By 7:30 I've dressed for the gym, drank a cup of coffee, answered an e-mail, finished yesterday's journal and observed that, in spite of feeling that the new bed and I were coming to terms nicely, my lower back is a little tight.

I decide that if I get to the gym and get home and get cleaned up that I can methodically start doing things that need to be done. And maybe get some of them done before the maid gets in my way.

I seem very busy. But it is hard to point to anything I've gotten done. I've started laundry. I've turned the pull-out couch back into a bed (for the first time in three months). I used some leather cleaner on said couch. I took out trash. I carried things from one room to clutter up another. I organized a few old newspapers and magazines. I have sorted through old folders, culling most things to recycling or shredding.

Then the maid is in my way. I do some online shopping. My dad calls and wants me to take him to get his van at the shop. I do it. The place is up off Howard Lane and we get turned around getting there and I get turned around and in traffic on the way home. I have to stop and put some bills in the mail for FFP at the post office on Far West. The traffic has so frustrated me that I go to Eckerd's nearby and by some candy and eat it.

Home again I fold a few clothes and get through a few more organizing tasks. All day I've tried to just do the one thing in front of me and not get frustrated by everything that needs to be done. Narrow my focus. Take care of the thing at hand. This is easier because I don't have one thing that is really hanging over me. I should do the family budget but it's just for information and we know that we have spent a lot in the last two months. My taxes are in the hands of the CPA except for K1's that keep dribbling in, though. And my reservations are made for France except for train travel. We have ordered most everything for the room and, while we are still sparring with the contractor, we are more or less living with it...just waiting for the closet people and the mover. Then we are going to have our own electrician do some fixes and add some track lights. There is nothing much for me to do but wait.

All of this makes conditions right for concentrating on just cleaning up some of the mess. But it still goes slowly. I can be turned away from it but the need to make a meal, clean up the dishes.

We didn't encase the toilet in a closet or a coffin...do you think it will affect resale?

JUST TYPING

Turn over a new leaf.
Mix things up.
Change things around.
Wake up the country club.
Or, at least, get there earlier than usual.

Time flies....

I am back from the club at ten or so. I am determined to get some stuff done. I start wandering around the house just doing what comes to hand, putting stuff up, taking out the trash, starting laundry. The day disappears but I get a few things sorted out. I 'cook' dinner (the meatloaf was a prepared item but I did steam vegies and make a cheese sauce). Then I read newspapers, worked a few crossword puzzles.

Reading.

Newspapers. Without which I wouldn't know that the Pope is against gay marriage and that some bishop says the church's abuse scandal is 'over.' Ahem.

The anniversary issue of The New Yorker.

The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler.

Pending:

DVD course on WWII.

I feel pretty focused. I am still hopelessly behind in doing all the things I think I should be doing but I don't care.

It's a Tangled
Web we weave...these
days of our lives.

I admit that I get these references out of newspapers and magazines and not by hunting them down but isn't this a cool idea...a hyper dictionary.

One year ago
"We went back to the hotel and started communicating with pals over cell phones, catching some of them coming in from JFK and someone else calling us to see if we were game for an Italian meal at Puttanesca near their hotel. Well, sure."

Two years ago
"We stopped in the Lancaster bar for a drink and visited with some Austin folks and then managed to grab a cab to get back to our hotel. The driver was some refugee from a chip company that was sold and dismantled or something. He was trying to make contacts for jobs while driving his cab."
