FISH HOEK, South Africa, October 8, 2005 — I have a saying about travel:

When you feel comfortable and know your way around, it's time to go home.

Yep, that's it, too.

I was amazed last visit when we organized a going away event and all these people came to say goodbye. People I'd only just met, really. We are organizing tea tomorrow. Tonight Mags' son is taking us out to dinner.

It's a beautiful day and I decide to have a nice long walk through the neigborhood. I visit a

couple of shops and stop for coffee and a snack at one place and coffee another. I walk the entire length of the beach at Fish Hoek and to the end of the cat walk. I walk out to the wetland preserve and walk around. I would have walked to Kalk Bay and back but I start to worrry that Mags will worry about me. Indeed when I get back she says she was 'ready to send out the search parties.'

Mags' son comes over in the evening. He's been playing golf all day and tomorrow he plans a bike ride and golf. He is always in motion. He takes us to Kalk Bay to a restaurant called Cape to Cuba. The food doesn't seem Cuban to me, but it is wonderful and what do I know from Cuban anyway. We have a wine from Spier, one of the wineries I visited and did a tasting at.

Mags' son camps out on the living room floor, staying over to be closer to the start of his early morning bike ride than his place. I've been staying in Mags' bedroom and she's been sleeping on a bed in her office so she can get up in the night and work if she can't sleep. He says he forgot his toothbrush. I say not to worry. I got one of those giveaway toiletry things on the plane and gave it to Mags. Mags took the eye shade. We gave the socks to Sue on Tuesday when she decided she should have worn some when she picked me up. I give the toothbrush to him.
