steamy day for food and music

I decide that it's a good day to get some pre-work exercise so I go with FFP to Westwood. We bike in front of the TV showing financial news. I do some chest presses, arm curls, flies. My upper body is flabby and thin and naturally weak to start with. Must push the weights more than once every couple of weeks to change that. Leaving the club, the damp hot air envelopes us like a blanket dripping with hot water.

Home, I shower and fool around with work email, personal email, posting my journal.

Then off to work. I finish composing a newsletter for my job and edit it. I consider some of my other duties.

At lunch SuRu and I decide to try Mirabelle. Small OK salad allegedly served with some kind of little muffin but ours never arrive. Reuben sandwich. OK. SuRu's roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and vegies look good and but it's a pretty small portion. We might go back. We get finished quickly and so have time to go to Noodle Kidoodle to get a baby gift. I buy gifts for the big brothers, too. Toys for newborns are so limited.

I go home about 5:30 and Mopac isn't backing up...people must have taken the whole week off. Forrest and I go to Jeffrey's. Johnny is overseeing his domain, making idle banter with the early patrons.

"Are we still having class reunions?" Johnny asks.

"Oh, maybe we will have a 40th in 2006," I say. He feigns horror.

Johnny and I don't remember going to high school together. But we did. And at our 20th reunion we realized we had met...at Jeffrey's in Austin.

We get a large order of Beluga. I order a chilled cucumber and smoked salmon soup . Served in the dark, cool dining room, it is a refreshing tonic from the day outside where heat visibly vibrates off the pavement.

I have the foie gras for an entreι (Forrest had it for an app). We are drinking a Newton Unfiltered Pinot Noir.

It's still to early to go to the Heller Center for the music. So Forrest has a dessert and I have a cheese plate.

We go back outside and it's still hot, steamy hot. Driving down West Lynn, I see one of those concrete gorillas in someone's yard. Before I've only seen them at the yard art emporiums far outside of towns on Interstate highways.

Amy Baker Stinson and Alok Kumar are singers in the Austin Lyric Opera young artists program. They were having a donation benefit in Ducloux Hall at the Heller Center to get funds to go to the Institute of Vocal Artistry.

There is a good crowd. All the usual suspects. The Armstrong the new music school in the building is named after. Many of the people with their names on the wall. Charles Duggan, producer. Our friends we know as the 'Double D.'

Alok and Amy sing show tunes and opera. A lovely controlled soprano. A baritone who can reach up as well. Lovely duet or two.

It's 10P.M. when it's over. It's still hot. Steamy. It makes me tired, sleepy. So it's home to sleep.

It's all about how you spend your time, isn't it? Do you work on your journal? This work task? Read this book? Clean the kitchen? I try to keep things neat by putting things where they belong right away. I take things from room to room as I go. Coffee cups, shoes, things to show FFP. My office is the messiest place because I don't really have a place for the things exactly and, when I buy new things, I plop them down here until I decide where they go or wrap them if they are gifts or whatever.

It's just all about how you spend your time.

Because of the visible woman theme and the fact that the yesterday and tomorrow buttons didn't look right, I've devised little skeletons to guide you to the past and future. I've also ditched the animated GIFs and replaced them with something more staid. Next I'll just have something like:

What then???
