"Loneliness as a situation can be corrected, but as a state of mind it is an incurable illness."

construction begins

My day was pretty long, but not real exciting. Spent some time in a phone meeting and some time in a real meeting. Had a leftover lunch with my parents.

I worked until 8 PM on my presentation. It still isn't finished. I am always torn between staying focused for an hour's presentation and saying everything I know. I always start to feel that the material is trite and boring. (Hmmm...well..it probably is. These conferences are meant to bore people while they sit in uncomfortable chairs between visits to vendors to get junk souvenirs and parties with too much booze.)

The bobcat that showed up in our yard last night did some damage today. When I left the house I thought, "They will bust a pipe."

They did, of course. But they fixed it. And it was the water one so they didn't blow themselves up with natural gas or anything. This driveway is going to be great. It will allow people (workman, maids, guests, bookkeeper) not to block my way to my slot in the garage. Yea! It will allow room for some parking for small parties or a place for valets to work for bigger ones. But first the machinery has to dig through the black earth and rocks, the magic pervious material has to be put in place and we have to redo the sprinkler system and landscaping. Stay tuned.

When I came home, late, from work, Forrest had made some chicken breasts with lemon pepper seasoning. He had a bag of baby spinach, a bag of other greens, some tomatoes and a smoky mustard sauce to complete the chopped chicken breast salad. I threw in some grated cheese. At what point did we all give up buying actual heads of lettuce and purple cabbage and spinach that had to have three rinses to remove the dirt? Even my parents buy the bags although they never seem to get the tasty ones.

Watched the final Ken Burns' Jazz. He couldn't decide how to wrap it up and showed a few current artists, the Marsalis childhood, etc. Still I liked it. Turned on the Jazz channel on digital cable afterwards and read away on my every growing stack of newspapers. Didn't make much of a dent. Did a couple of crosswords.
