Dad and a friend (and co-worker) at my retirement party

"Few men of action have been able to make a graceful exit at the appropriate time."
Malcolm Muggeridge, British Journalist

It is not enough to be happy; it is necessary, in addition, that others not be.

push 1 to...push 2 to..., this call may be recorded for...

I still have a little tension today. I'm trying to straighten out the ISV. And for the matter of my mother's affairs, I'm having to go through long exhausting recorded messages and their choices and, in some cases, only end up with another number to dial. But progress is made. If I'm lucky, email and WEB access will be stable for a while. I actually got someone sympathetic on the phone. As to the insurance companies, medical records offices and such, some progress was made there, too. There are more things to be done tomorrow. But progress was made.

I did have a short workout this morning. I thought about batting some tennis balls against a wall or taking a walk. But I didn't. I thought about reading the newspaper in the backyard with coffee. But I didn't. I didn't get all the junk straightened in the house either. But I cleaned up around the Mac I plan to use for some stuff. I fixed the printer at Mom's house. I did those calls to handle ISP and life insurance and such. So, yeah, not a total waste. You don't instantly get organized just because you are retired. Things take time.

We go to Lambert's with a friend who has been through his own trying time. We talk about retirement (he is retired in so far as he does the things he wants). We go to Four Seasons for a while. It's pleasant and nice to come home and know that tomorrow...you can get going when you please.
