"High finance isn't burglary or obtaining money by false pretenses, but rather a judicious selection from the best features of those fine arts."

time is running out

Why do I always get permission to do something when it's too late?

Had lunch with the parents. Dad doesn't feel well. His poison ivy is better but still bothersome. He is feeling unsteady. He doesn't feel like making his sprinkler work. I try to make a program to go off at 7PM and later he says it started but didn't work all over the yard. Fortunately, Mom is feeling pretty good. I still haven't taught her how to sucessfully get a message started to someone every time. I teach her to click on their address or use the TO button again. Sigh.

At home, FFP has made a great dinner of chicken thighs in a creole orange mustard sauce. Served with these canned purple peas he's discovered he likes with jalapenos. And beets. And a salad with feta cheese, black olives and basalmic. What's not to like? He opened some wine, too. That and a couple of VERY strange days sent me to sleep early.

But not before we noticed that, when the AC comes on in our big room, the cable box glitches. Now I must explain that we have TWO cable boxes in series because the idiot from Time Warner put this antique one in that didn't have a removable connector when we were inserting all this gear (including the VERY heavy 35inch TV) into the built-ins. So...when we wanted a digital cable box we had to pass the signal through it or remove the giant TV to change the cable connection. Or something like that. Anyway, this arrangement works but has a tendency to cycle off if the power dips. Which, apparently, has suddenly become the case when that AC comes on. It used to just do it when lightning struck nearby. I'm serious. Nothing else would blink. Put this in the category of annoying and interesting. But not cosmic.

I don't like it when my parents aren't feeling their best, but I'm afraid that one or the other of my parents might be ailing at any given time for the next couple of decades. So I best learn to empathize without internalizing it. Had other sad news from a friend today. I am very lucky that I'm healthy and wealthy and wise. Well, maybe not wise. Lucky anyway.

The department of multi-lingual punning offers definitions for this misspelling:

provacative (instead of provocative): A carnivore, particularly of beef.

My less linguistical (is that a word) friends (well in Spanish and French anyway) preferred definitions centering on vacation (prone to go on vacation at a moment's notice) or vacate. In fact, someone I know to be a Spanish scholar preferred the vacation spin.

After the exchange of e-mails on that (so fire me) I said to a couple of the participants,, "I'm fun to be around, huh?" For SuRu, I also amused her with how cool the picture of Zoey in the shop window (see Saturday) looked as a wallpaper. Hey, I did a lot of work, too, actually. Really. But I don't have to convince you, do I? You are my fans.
