I'm not much of a joiner

Every once in a while it occurs to me that I'm not really into joining groups and, well, following.

When I was a kid I thought I wanted to be part of bigger things, join a group, get a uniform. In the end, though, over time, I found myself happiest when I was alone or making up the rules of the groups that I was part of.

Today, though, I went to hang out with the Austin journalers. I don't know why I do it. It's pleasant enough, just a group getting together, chatting, eating, drinking. But, why, after all, do it. I listen to the folks. And I still don't know the answer. I feel that the folks are pleasant and the kind of people I'd be happy to invite to my house, mixing them at a party with my other disparate friends.

So, I decided that it wasn't like joining something. It was rather like going to a party someone else was giving and meeting people.

I never really counted them. Now they are in boxes.

JUST TYPING

Groups.
Are OK.
If you are in control.
Or don't take things too seriously.

Time flies....

We are up at seven, six really, and we shower up and go to Cafe Brasil. In three separate cars, the relatives show up. After a nice breakfast, we head down the road. At Czech Stop, we pull over and have a bathroom and drink stop. Then at Temple we buy gas and wander off to find the VA's old folks home. We find it, and, inside, we hunt down my uncle and Forrest's and visit with them for a few minutes. It's lunch time so we don't stay long and get in the way of nourishment. Then we slide home.

I decide to go to the Austin Journaler's monthly Sunday meeting. I'm not sure why. Just did. Enjoyed talking to the folks. Although sometimes they make me feel very, very old.

The rest of the evening was spent reading, watching the tube and watching the DVD of Heavenly Creatures.

It's a Tangled
Web we weave...these
days of our lives.

One year ago
"I read a copy of The New Yorker from February with an article about Martha Stewart and another about the AIDS epidemic in Africa. "

Two years ago
"I got a little tired of the event before it was all over. There were truly rich people there who can buy a wine dinner for a dozen people for $13,000 without thinking twice about it. People lots richer than me. Good for them. Good for charity."
