rainy day

Two things influence my activities today. It's raining. And there is nothing on the calendar.

When it's raining but you have an appointment, you just go on. Back when I worked, if it was a rainy Tuesday, I would go to the office.

Even now, if I'd had a lunch date scheduled, I would have gone to the club before eleven to get in a workout. This is either the good or the bad part of being retired.

In the evening the sun was out, but I sat in front of the TV with newspapers, magazines and iced coffee. This is either the good or bad part of being retired. There will be sun another day.

Time flies....

I got up somewhat late. Dressed for the gym and then sat at my desk, watching old movies like The Getaway and working on my journal. I checked a couple of times and it was raining. So I just sat there at my computer. I answered a friend's e-mail. It was around 11 when I headed to the club and nearly two when I was back and got into finding some lunch.

Besides watching unbelievably bad movies (Pumpkin with Christina Ricci, for example) and a nice piece on making The Pianist, I did sort through some of the stuff I packed away before the remodel. Slowly but surely I'm getting things in order. Now if I'd just work on that office of mine!

I did some thinking about the format here. The current thinking is to change from a page every day to a set of pages for the month. One for each of the sections that I now try to represent on this page. Folllowing something one of the other journalers said, each entry will have a dateline with place and time. Of course, this is all just stewing in my mind. The real new format may be something else.

I watched Millionaire and read stuff and watched the women's NCAA basketball final and read papers.

Then I read in bed until sleep, also watching some sort of dull foreign film made with the Dogma principles.

Reading.

Newspapers.

Ernie Pyle's Here is Your War.

A film magazine called The Independent.

Old Natl. Geo about D-Day.

Thinking about Things.

T-Shirts.
Polos.
Really you only need about ten or twelve.
Just so you don't have to launder.
All the time.
They eventually wear out.
Get holes from all the sweat and laundry.
I have at least forty of these shirts.
Geez.
That's nuts.

I was thinking, while doing some weights, how much time and trouble this program has been. I don't know why I'm surprised when I actually see some small results.

I got up with a little lower back ache. Tennis? My bed is supposed to prevent backaches. Ahem. I didn't let it stop me. These backaches I have seem to do better if I get moving.

It's a Tangled
Web we weave...these
days of our lives.

"Is the journal important? Why have I even been working on it when there are so many other things that I need and want to be doing? I'm not sure. But it is slowly slipping from my computer into cyberspace. With something like a life of its own."

Two years ago
"I join FFP in the big room. We watch extremely weird, relentlessly artsy movies on IFC and I read the paper and start on a book about how to use Fireworks. (I use it everyday but there are many things I don't know.)"
