The Visible Woman
Eats!

AUSTIN, Texas, June 30, 2004 — I didn't keep track of it all. But I ate kidneys and sweetbreads, yogurt and granola, croissants and butter and jam. I ate bananas and apples, soft-boiled eggs and herring. And herring roe. And steak tartar. Mussels. French Fries. Nachos. Cheese of every stripe. Patés. Soups. Trout. I drank wine and beer and cokes. I learned to drink the bitter orange liqueur Picon. I had duck. I had sole. I had croque monsieur and grilled cheese I fried myself in butter. I had mangoes and chicken and salmon. I had molé enchiladas. Tortilla chips. Several kinds of soups. Green onions, sandwiches, Power Bars. Crêpes. I had dishes laced with truffles. I had desserts. I consumed much coffee, strong. Various kinds of alcohol. Eggs Sardou (with artichoke hearts). I'm sure I had beef. I had various salads. I had pizza. Indian food. Pigeon (with truffles). Tuna. But...I didn't gain any weight. Miraculous? I think so.
